The ancient city of Pepouza is located approximately 40 km from the city center of Uşak. It is in Karayakuplu Village of Karahallı District. The center where montanism emerged is the city of "Pepouza" in the Phrygian region. According to written sources, the city had a Byzantine monastery. More than sixty rooms, dining hall, chapel, kitchen, cross-shaped Byzantine graffiti and Byzantine pottery were found in the monastery on three floors. In addition, the spring water in the eastern part of Ulubey Canyon was brought to the city of Pepouza, which is thought to be a large settlement and located in the area where the canyon expands, from a distance of 2.5 km, with the help of Clandras Aqueduct, to the west of the Roman bridge.
